Loop x Fairy

March 2021

This project brief was to redesign the packaging of a popular brand, Fairy Liquid, to fit within a refillable system. Loop as a company aim to make refillable packaging as the "go-to" packaging, encouraging customers to move away from single use plastic.

I initially started this project by carrying out secondary and primary research to find out what problems people typically have with washing up liquid bottles and what they think of the brand Fairy.

Although my initial designs had some merit, I found that the idea of a pod had the most potential, so this was the idea I carried forward.

The final idea uses washing up pods rather than liquid that dissolves and fizzes in the water. I aimed to enhance the user experience when washing the dishes and the pods add a more engaging element to the chore.

The bottle works on a simple loaded spring that pushes the pods to the top. The lid then slides forward to push the pod out of the front of the dispenser.

A big part of this design was child safety; a product that acts as a bath bomb will get the attention of children. Therefore, the lid of the dispenser has a push down and forward system to prevent children being able to get to the pods.

The final CMF includes a stainless steel body that is anodised for colour. The main body colours match the Fairy Liquid colours, with the traditional red colour used for the Fairy Liquid cap being used as the touch point on the dispenser.
