DIY Clipboard Organiser

This cute little project was inspired by the fact that reminders and notices either always go missing or end up on a bland calendar, never to be looked at. My solution to this problem? This DIY clipboard organiser...

The basis of this product were 2 plain, wooden clipboards, costing around £2 each. When I bought these I already had the idea in mind, however, once I saw the wooden clipboards I knew they would be the ideal base of the project.

Originally I planned to paint the clipboards and create a geometric, pastel effect using pink and purple paint. However, since the clipboards had a protective coating on them, it prevented the paint sticking to the boards. Instead, using decorative paper, I create the same geometric designs but glued them on instead. Although this wasn't my initial plan for this DIY project, I've found that it gives the product more detail and depth due to the mixture of colours and patterns. This design also makes the clipboards more eye catching, meaning you are more likely to look at them and the information on them.

I wanted to create a set using the clipboards, therefore, I used the same 4 patterns of paper to decorate the 2 clipboards. Using different geometric shapes and positions for the patterns meant that the clipboards have their own personality and are individual but it is clear that they are a set and so they work well together.

Once the clipboards had backgrounds, it was time to add the sections for memos and information. I knew I wanted to have sticky notes on them to write notes on, and I knew I wanted clips of some sort to hold memos that are likely to get lost. Therefore, I stuck pink sticky notes (keeping with the pink theme) and painted 2 old wooden pegs white to pull other colours into the project. I also added an envelope, some paper clips and a pencil holder, to keep all the pieces together. Each little addition to the product had the intention of making the product more personalised and usable to all people; you can add photos and other little trinkets.

Overall I really enjoyed making this little project, its simple, cute and helps keep me organised and sorted. This project is definitely one of my favourites and I will be using it a lot.

Let me know what you think! Feel free to message me on my e-mail and give me feedback! I'd love to hear from you!
